2016 Belmont Stakes Morning Line
The 148th Belmont Stakes will not feature a colt making a charge at the Triple Crown, but Exaggerator can become the first horse to pull off a Preakness Stakes/Belmont Stakes double since Afleet Alex did it in 2005. And the 2016 Belmont Stakes morning line from bookmaker Bovada.lv is favoring the colt to accomplish the rare feat.
Exaggerator is drawing +125 odds on Belmont Stakes day, making him a rather large favorite among the 13-horse field. The Curlin sired colt, who will be ridden by veteran jockey Kent Desormeaux (2009 Belmont Stakes winner and a three-time Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner), notched its fifth career win at the Preakness Stakes last month.
Exaggerator upset the favored Nyquist at Pimlico, spoiling a Triple Crown bid for the colt. Nyquist was 4-0 in four previous meetings with Exaggerator.
A rematch will not be in the cards this evening, though. Nyquist is sitting out tonight’s race after coming down with a post-Preakness fever.
However, fellow Preakness runners Lani, Cherry Wine and Stradivari will challenge Exaggerator in the Belmont. As will Derby participants Suddenbreakingnews, Brody’s Cause, Creator, Trojan Nation and Destin. Also making a bid to win the “Test of the Champion’ are Governor Malibu, Seeking the Soul, Forever d’Oro and Gettysburg.
Of those, Suddenbreakingnews and Stradivari are being viewed as Exaggerator’s biggest threats, coming in at +700 odds apiece.
Exaggerator will start tonight’s race from the outside in Gate 11, a post which has produced just two Belmont winners.
Post time for the 2016 Belmont Stakes is set for 6:32pm ET. Coverage of the event, which is the longest of the Triple Crown races at 1 1/2-miles, will be provided by NBC.
