Gennady Golovkin missed daughter's birth for Canelo fight

- The 35-year-old finished training before arriving two hours after the birth

Gennady Golovkin missed the birth of his baby daughter so as not to disrupt training for his superfight with Canelo Alvarez.
Triple G’s second child was born in Los Angeles on Friday afternoon. He finished the day’s workout before making a flying visit to the maternity ward, arriving two hours after the event.
‘No problem,’ says the world middleweight champion. ‘I am very happy for this but we know my business comes first.

‘The baby would come without me being there. I had done my part!
‘Of course I went to see my wife and baby as soon as I could. But this fight with Canelo is the most important of my career. As it is for him.’
Trainer Abel Sanchez says: ‘Gennady is smiling a lot not only for the birth but also because he finally has this big fight and that frustration is over.’
At the packed final press conference of fight week Golovkin added: ‘Yes I am in a good mood.’
So are the fans pouring into Vegas, the majority Canelo supporters also celebrating also celebrating Mexican Independence weekend.
