Preakness Stakes Odds 2016
Nyquist will seek his ninth win in nine starts on Saturday when the 141st running of the Preakness Stakes takes place at the Pimlico Racetrack in Baltimore, Maryland. Post time in the second and shortest leg (1 3/16 miles) of the Triple Crown Series is set for 6:45pm ET. The latest Preakness Stakes Odds 2016 from offshore bookmaker Bovada.lv have Nyquist listed as a -160 favorite to win the race.
Some pundits were skeptical of Nyquist, in spite of his 8-0 record, entering the Kentucky Derby, citing some rather modest Beyer speed figures among other things. The colt was, nonetheless, favored at Churchill Downs and it proved its detractors wrong, claiming the top spot in the Run for the Roses as well as the lion’s share of a $2 million purse with its 2:01.31 finish.
A $2 bet on Nyquist to win returned $6.60 while Place and Show wagers brought back $4.80 and $3.60, respectively. Fellow favorites Exaggerator, Gun Runner and Mohaymen showed well, finishing second, third and fourth, also respectively.
Exaggerator, who made a furious late rally to secure his second place Derby finish, Gun Runner and Lani are, aside from Nyquist the only Kentucky Derby participants giving it a go in this weekend’s Preakness Stakes.
Exaggerator is drawing +450 odds while Gun Runner and Lani, the ninth place Derby finisher, are getting +1000 and +4000 ($100 wins $4000).
The smaller field also features Stradivari, Collected, Cherry Wine, Dazzling Gem, Uncle Lino, Fellowship, Awesome Speed, and Laoban. Of those, Stradivari is considered the mostly likely winner with a +900 listing. The colt, which is trained by Todd Pletcher, will be racing in just its fourth race.
Collected, Cherry Wine and Dazzling Gem are each lined at +2500 odds; the three colts have seven wins in a combined 15 starts.
